Swedish Massage

What is a Swedish massage?

Swedish massage is a full body therapeutic treatment that involves massaging the soft tissues and muscles.

Swedish-style massage involves long, soft, kneading strokes to relax and reduce tension from the deepest muscles of your body. These techniques can be combined with joint movement to relax, energise, and heal your joints and muscles, creating a calming and balancing effect.

Swedish massage benefits

The adjustment of pressure between soft tissue and muscle during a Swedish Massage makes it an ideal massage for relaxation and soothing tight muscles. The physical benefits go far beyond muscle relaxation, offering the following benefits:

  • Decreasing muscle toxins
  • Improving flexibility and range of motion
  • Helping to keep ligaments and tendons supple
  • Easing back pain and aiding chronic pain
  • Improving blood circulation

What happens during a Swedish massage?

In a traditional Swedish massage treatment the whole body is massaged. Your Massage Therapist will usually start by massaging your back and neck, then the legs, arms, hands and sometimes the feet.

During the massage, they will use:

  • Kneading, long strokes
  • Deep circular movements
  • Passive joint movements

What is a Swedish massage used for?

Swedish massage is used to improve circulation and promote relaxation through soothing your muscles. The techniques involve soft strokes over areas which are more prone to pain, or without much muscle coverage.

Swedish full body massage vs deep tissue

Swedish massage is softer than deep tissue massage and suitable for people interested in tension relief, improving circulation and relaxation.
